Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

I'm the kind of girl who likes action movies. I'm a child of the eighties so I grew up watching the Transformers cartoons and even had a couple of the toys. Though I didn't get to see the first movie at the cinemas, (damn exams) I really enjoyed it and was looking forward to going to see the sequel.
We tried to get tickets to see it at the Imax the day after it came out, but everyone had the same idea and we ended up in Birch Carroll and Coyle's brand new version (and three times as expensive as) of the Imax, the VMAX. The seats were leather and comfy and the addition of a little table instead of the cup holders that make you grope your neighbours knee to get a drink was nice, but what really did it for me in these new cinemas was the sound. Wow. Everytime a bomb went off or the robots shot at something it boomed so loud that I felt as if I was there.
I enjoyed the movie for what it was. It was loud and exciting and the plot moved at a good pace, with enough calmer moments to balance out the action. I'm one for the action sequences and these didn't disappoint. Megan Fox and Isabel Lucas as the two sexy girls in the piece annoyed me. Lucas looked horrible and had far too much fake tan on (plus, I've seen her work in Home and Away, the girl is kinda pretty but not an actress at all). Megan Fox is a really pretty girl, and she can definitely act, but the constant close ups of butt and cleavage got old fast. Although I'm sure the movie was an all round hit with the boys.
After I came home and had a bit of a think about it, the plot wasn't as tight as it seemed at the time. There were things that happened that were obviously just to give a reason for a third movie which I don't have a problem with, but I would question how early on in the plot they occured. Any of the Autobots who didn't have a distinctive colour got lost in the fight scenes and as a result, during a lot of the action sequences I was just watching for the effect, I couldn't tell who was winning or losing the battles. Also, I loved Bumblebee in the first movie and he was not in this one nearly enough.
In conclusion, I think it was a little bit hit and miss. I enjoyed how little I had to concentrate, I liked the fighting, the loud noises and the scale of the film. I think the humour really carried the film and worked well at dispersing the tension as well as rooting the movie in current events (specifically the crack about swine flu). I think, go to be entertained rather than enlightened. But then, if you're expecting enlightenment from a movie about the Transformers than I guess you're probably looking in the wrong place.
