Have we lost out Imaginations?

Rambo, Indy, Axel, Rocky....to name a few.
Has the movie industry run out of ideas, given the number of franchises that are being resurrected each year?
Surely there are some imaginative writers/directors/producers that don't have to rely on looking at remakes or digging up age-old comic book characters to get a good story.
I wonder how Lucas & Co dreamt up Star Wars, or even how Stallone got the script together for Rocky. I'd be guessing.... but I'm pretty sure they didn't look at comic books & the movies definitely weren't remakes.
Whilst I must admit I am a fan of some of the remakes/comic book movies, like Transformers & the Simpons (which was ok), I yearn for something that is somewhat different.
I remember when I first saw Indiana Jones & the last Crusade. Whilst adventure films are a dime a dozen, anyone who watched that for the first time and didn't want to be Indy is laughing.
How many times have you gone to see a movie and whilst your watching it.......think that some parts remind you of other movies and so on.
I guess that is one of the main challenges facing movie directors. How to make movies that are original and different to others.......
Just my two cents.
