An Ultimate Flashback Series #1 Rollercoaster(1977)

August 21st 2010 19:11

I was thinking the other day about all the movies i have seen in my short life time and some way or another i came up with an idea to look back at five movies from each year i have been alive.

Most of these movies i have never seen till now. I am going to try and watch movies from different genres and not watch just the big name movies.

The first year i will start with is the year of my birth 1977.

I hope you enjoy these flashbacks and please give me some advice on movies i should watch from a certain year.

Flashback #1 Rollercoaster

This movie was directed by James Goldstone and stars Timothy Bottoms, George Segal, Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark and a very young Helen Hunt.

I had never heard of this movie till know so really have no reason why i picked it first but i did.

Plot:A sneaky and soft-spoken bomber sneaks into the Ocean View Amusement Park and places a small, radio-controlled bomb on the tracks of "The Rocket" coaster. The bomb detonates, the ride derails, and several people die. Ride inspector Harry Calder, who is trying to shrug off his smoking habit, is called over to the park, and determines that there was an unauthorized man on the track, eliminating structural problems as the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, the terrorist flies to Pittsburgh and sets the "dark ride" at Wonder World on fire, although everyone escapes without injuries. The heads of the parks meet in a hotel in Chicago, but the bomber disguised as a bell boy, bugs the room. Calder then unknowingly crosses paths with him on his way to the meeting. They then play a tape the Young Man sent them, telling them he demands a sum of $1 million dollars to stop his bombing campaign.

Movie starts out very slow to me just following the bomber around watching him spy on his handywork. I loved it when the bomb finally went off and cars started flying everywhere. It made me laugh how the cars went off one by one when the whole ride the were connected it makes you appreicate how movies have changed.

Okay i am writing this as i am watching it. The movie has slowed down alot. Way to much mind games for me. I am 45 mins into movie and i am getting bored hopefully i can make it thru the rest of the film.

Come on you are being used by the bomber to deliever his cash and some kid walks up and hands you a package and you just open it. Not in todays movies.

1hr 20 mins in and i am at my last straw. I am not a big fan of movies when you know who the killer or bomber is and you are just waiting for them to catch him.

Okay well 1977 isnt starting out great. Movie was too drawn out. It was an ending that everybody who watches can figure out.

I give this movie three stars out of ten. I have seen alot worse.

Well, till next time thanks for reading and please give me your insight on this movie or future movies i should watch.
